Rage games, some people love them and some people hate them, and then there are those people who love to hate them as well. I have no idea where I fall in that spectrum of gamers because I love the challenge … but only sometimes. Fortunately, Ascending Inferno is one I really enjoyed playing and I can actually say that the difficulty actually enhances the experience immensely.
You play as Dani who ends up in hell through an unfortunate football accident and finds her brothers soul waiting for her, but not as himself. Vincent has transformed into a ball and so you must use your football skills to ascend all the levels of hell to get Dani and Vincent out of a bad situation.
The game is not easy, even the tutorial level is pretty tricky to get to grips with for anyone who finds precision platforming hard, but with the added bonus of having to keep a physics-based ball close to you at the same time.
Oh and you also have a speed run option as well if you feel a little adventurous. Anyway, Ascending Inferno is a deliciously hellish platformer with Unique mechanics that will make you rage and rejoice in equal measure so go and check it out if you love a challenge.

Things I liked!
- The Difficulty Level | The game is hard for sure, but not so much so that I wanted to throw my Steam Deck or controller out the window (Looking at you I Am Bread). In fact I would say it is a very tough but fair game, you feel a real sense of accomplishment when you progress just a little bit further each time. Honestly, though I have no idea how Speed Runners can do it.
- Graphics | The game world just looks amazing, Hell is very well crafted and I can see a lot of love was poured into the making of this game. Don’t expect Photo realism here though, it is a pixel/voxel adventure with a lot to take in as you ascend as best you can from the pits of Hell.
Mixed & disliked!
- The Difficulty Level | Ok so I both loved and didn’t love the difficulty in equal measure, but that is what makes it a good rage game, if you breeze through it without a care in the world it would be far to easy. I admit to wanting to say a few choice swear words at the devs from time to time but again it just made the accomplishments feel so much better in the end.
CONCLUSION
Score:78 /100 – A great game that will challenge you in a good way. I really need to look up people who speedrun this game though, I honestly don’t know how they could do it!
