Review | Whiskey Mafia – Frank’s story

LifeisXbox’s Whiskey Mafia – Frank’s Story review | It’s the golden age of liquor, the streets are bustling with new money, and people looking for something to wet their tongue with. Corruption is everywhere you look, and extortion is something that isn’t shied away from. Street gangs go around hustling shops for protection money or bribing the police to keep an eye closed when some random John Doe suddenly disappears, never to be seen again… Welcome, in the age where the Mafia (or mob) ruled the streets and were the dominating force on the streets. Brought to us by Fastgame (a developer and how this game truly is…), Whiskey Mafia takes place in the 1920s. You play as Frank, a mailman who has been chumped for many months out of a well-deserved paycheck. Thus, together with Leo (who has his own game as well in the Whiskey Mafia franchise), decides it’s time to make some real cash and buy a pub. But not everything goes as planned, and things escalate. What will happen? Who will survive? It’s time to find out in this review of… Whiskey Mafia Frank’s Story!

This is a short review, our usual the good, mixed and the bad was difficult because of the nature of this game. We played Whiskey mafia Frank’s story for 50 minutes on Xbox Series X. This game is also available on Switch, PC and playstation.

There honestly isn’t much to say about This one, honestly. When the game seems to start picking up the pace? It actually just… Ends. Roll the end screen baby! WHAT? If this was a free-to-play game, sure. But come on, people pay money for this. Don’t go and cut the game off when things just start rolling. Ugh. Gameplay-wise, it’s a snoozefest. In the first minutes, you have to deliver mail to a couple of house numbers. Frank walks incredibly slow (lengthening the game by around 10 minutes). There’s some dialog and BOOM. You own a bar… Excuse me? The bar gameplay literally has no purpose. You earn money by tapping customers who want a drink (they have their preferences, so you have to keep tabs on your stock. If not? You have to order some more which instantly adds to your stock… No delivery time, nothing. So why have a stock?) You earn money, which has no purpose at all. You can’t do anything with the money you earned. If the shift is over, and the next day rolls in? Your stock is reset and your money counter is back to standard as well… So, again, these numbers are just fluffer text leading to absolutely bullcrap. There are some cuts here and there when the phone rings inside of the bar. But that doesn’t pause the patrons, and they keep entering and leaving.
The fighting is just button mashing and the shooting? You can dodge by just… Get this, moving below where the guy stops to start shooting. The bullets will just go over your head. And lastly, the translation. I had my game set in ENGLISH. Yet, that didn’t stop the menu from being in Russian, or the flavor text is in gibberish. The dialog is poorly translated as well. It actually looks like they ran it through google translate, and then just went “hey, that seems accurate”. Such a pity… A quick cash grab of a game in my opinion…

15%

Whiskey Mafia – Frank’s Story is a game that sadly disappoints. Why? Because the length is incredibly short (45 minutes!), the translation isn’t really properly done, and the gameplay is pointless and boring. Even though it’s a bargain? It really isn’t worth the money…
