LifeisXbox’s Cookie Clicker review | It is finally on Steam! Originally released all the way back in 2013, this game has received the title of clicker game god, providing the inspiration for many idle clicker games as we know them now. I’m, of course, talking about Orteil’s legendary Cookie Clicker. The game where you never have enough cookies and I’m sure a lot of us spent a lot of time on. After 8 years, the day had finally come, the moment was finally here! At the beginning of September, Cookie Clicker finally found its way to Steam. And as kind as I am, I dove into the world of cookies to see if the game is still as good as it used to be all those years ago.
This is a short review, our usual the good, mixed and the bad was difficult because of the nature of this game. We played Cookie Clicker for 6 hours on PC.
Ah, Cookie Clicker, what an all-time classic, and now it’s finally on Steam, how lucky are we! For the ones who do not know what the game is about let me give you a short introduction. The game title pretty much says it all, but still. While playing Cookie Clicker it is your goal to get as many cookies as possible by clicking the giant cookie that is shown on your screen. By buying upgrades, which helps you with generating even more cookies, it is your job to build out an imperium and become the king of cookies.
The gameplay is fairly simple since you are just clicking a cookie in order to earn even more cookies. Upgrades can be bought using cookies, of course. It’s all about the cookies. When you have gathered some upgrades you will even earn the cookies without actually having to click yourself which makes the game one of the first idle clicker games ever and is used as an inspiration for many other clicker games released since.
What I personally really like about the game is that at its core, the graphics have always stayed the same, providing the same nostalgic feeling now as I had back in the days. The sound that is playing in the background also gives off some relaxing music although if you are gonna play it a lot, please turn it off and play something else because I think you are going to be crazy. Putting on your own music seems like a much better fit, which I usually do when playing idle clicker games. Of course, this game has grown and has had its fair shares of updates which is only normal, but if you loved it back then, I’m sure that you will still love it right now.
The game also offers over 500 achievements on Steam so for achievement hunters this game is one big challenge and should be played over the long haul in order to collect them all. I really liked the idea to include so many achievements as it gives Cookie Clicker an extra dimension (and like an extra goal), something it didn’t have with its original release.
You might wonder why the developers would choose to release Cookie Clicker on Steam, but let’s look at the facts here. Cookie Clicker was a loved game back in its day, and we probably all played it. But most of all, it was a free game that basically any computer could run on its browser. So why would you pay for it now? Because I think we all can agree that the developer deserves some more recognition for this incredible game that was created. So if you also want to show your support, like many others have already done on Steam, get on there!
