Review | Youtubers Life 2

LifeisXbox’s Youtubers Life 2 Review | Just like with my Bouncy Bullets 2 review, I have never played the first Youtubers Life. However, differently from it, I was always interested in it. In Youtubers Life 2 you start right after the ending of the first game. You’re invited to live in Newtube City because you’re one of the best YouTubers from that contest. There are a lot of YouTubers and activities here – Livestream, record videos, and become the biggest YouTuber on Newtube City while also saving it from an unknown threat! Youtubers Life 2 is developed by UPLAY Online and published by Raiser Games.

ℹ️ | Colombo played Youtubers Life 2 for around 18 Hours on Xbox One. This game is also available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Steam, Microsoft Windows, and macOS.

What we liked!

  • A lot of content | There’s certainly a lot you can do in Youtubers Life 2. You can make a bunch of different kinds of videos like gameplays and vlogs, you can livestream, take pictures for Instalife (Instagram clone), eat and drink, fish, participate in conventions, improve your relationship with other youtubers and other people, get married, get divorced, expand your house, upgrade your gaming setup, house and so on. If you want a game to dedicate tens of hours to, that surprisingly feels a lot like Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley, Youtubers Life 2 is for you.
  • Charismatic World/Characters | Even though this game looks a little bit simplistic with its art style, it’s definitely pleasant to the eyes. Nothing looks out of place (unless you’re the one who places it like that in your house on purpose), and it has that same relaxing vibe Harvest Moon games have where you familiarize yourself in its day-by-day world; exploring the city, getting more money by making livestreams/videos, growing your channel, completing missions and growing closer to other characters as these are all needed to complete your journey as a youtuber.
  • Pleasant soundtrack | The soundtrack here sounds pretty happy and relaxing, which fits the game very well, making it feel good to listen to while doing what you need to. They could’ve messed up with it like other game developers do by choosing songs that don’t feel right with their game, but even though it’s not made by an orchestra or a famous musician (like a lot of big games do with their soundtracks like God of War and The Elder Scrolls), they really did a good job here; nice going UPLAY Online team!
  • References Everywhere | There are loads of references here that will surely make you go: “Wait a minute, is that ~insert something here~?” which will make a lot of people happy. There are references to movies like Ghostbusters and Star Wars, video games like Halo, Fortnite and Until Dawn on game names and game covers, consoles such as the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and so forth. There are also NPC youtubers that are part of sidequests like PewDiePie, Crainer, GermanLetsPlay, and more.

Somewhere between

  • Required minigames | I do understand that putting minigames was an attempt to make the player feel more engaged with Youtubers Life 2 but some people definitely won’t like being forced to play them to make progress. There’s a rhythm minigame that shows up when you stream, plays a little bit like Friday Night Funkin’ but it’s not as hard as that game is. There’s also a minigame for recording videos, where you have to choose reactions to boost your charisma divided into five emoji faces (which aren’t explained what they represent exactly).

What we disliked

  • Technical issues | I’m going to list the technical issues I experienced here which were unfortunately more than I expected to find. I thought I had lost items that I tried placing on my home and cancelled placement. I didn’t have the storage chest at the time but when I got the chest, the item showed up inside it which definitely shouldn’t happen considering I didn’t have the chest at the time. There were also occasional freezes while navigating the menus, usually after the first time I opened the menus after starting the game. I have to point out that sometimes the camera wasn’t smooth; it seemed like frame rate drops however my character was moving smoothly at the same time. I also got softlocked while doing a secondary mission as I didn’t have enough stamina to do the required action inside the building I was in and the game wouldn’t let me exit while I had no way to do it. There was one achievement that I should’ve unlocked but didn’t and I saw other achievements along this one with a 0.00% unlock rate which makes me believe these are also broken. Finally, there were occasional issues with characters going inside objects as well.
  • Not enough time | As I mentioned before, there is a lot of available activities in Youtubers Life 2 which is definitely good but unfortunately, the in-game days don’t feel like they are long enough for you to do everything you want to. Since there are also time limited events, your priorities shift. If you forgot about something that is time limited and went to sleep then it’s too late because every time you go to sleep the game saves and there were no manual saves available when I played. They could change this with updates but I’m not sure they will.
  • No Indicators and not enough tutorials | Not only are there no indicators to your objectives but the objectives aren’t always clear about where on the map it is that you need to go. There is a basic tutorial in the beginning of the game but there are things that aren’t explained very well or at all that you have to figure out by yourself.
  • Main story doesn’t progress naturally | This is something that some people may disagree with but I felt like there were main quests that didn’t need to be as grindy as they were. Also, some of them can’t be done in certain seasons because of a place not being open during those seasons. This happened to me and it would’ve made me play for a lot longer than I needed to finish the story (I don’t even know if I’d have more main objectives after that). I feel like this game didn’t need to have a questline – it needed to be just like Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life is, where the player decides what he wants to do and when he wants to do it, (with the exception for timed events, those are fine) as long as you have longer days than Youtubers Life 2 did then it shouldn’t be a problem.

Youtubers Life 2 is a charismatic game with plenty of content available to the player and a breath of fresh air for those seeking something to relax a bit. It should have more tutorials, less focus on objectives (or no objectives at all) and fewer bugs than it did. This is definitely one of those games that I wish I could give a higher score to, but I already feel a little bit generous with the score I gave it, considering all the problems it had.
