Review | Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town

LifeisXbox’s Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town review | A year after its original release on PC, Imaginarylab’s Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town has finally been sent to the world of the Nintendo Switch. In this 3rd person point and click graphic adventure game, you are playing as Willy who goes on a search for his father who has been missing for 10 years. While looking for clues you are going to meet some strange people who are trying to make your search even more difficult. Do you have what it takes to solve the mystery or will you get lost in Bone Town? Good Luck!

ℹ️ | We played Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town for over 3 hours on the Nintendo Switch. This game is also available on PC and is coming to the PS4 in the near future, release date TBA.

What we liked!

  • A good looking game | While playing Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town you will quickly figure out that graphical-wise this game is very good looking. Every little thing that you see or encounter in the game is very detailed. First, you will start in your own house which actually feels like it and when you move to Bone Town everything gets even better. You see all the different buildings, people and just the surroundings you encouter give a special feeling and provide a nice atmosphere to play through. It’s a cool picture to look at and the screenshots don’t do the game justice, in my humble opinion.
  • Sound | One of the most fantastic things about this game is that it is fully voice acted. This in combination with the words writtin on screen makes everything that is said easily understandable. Another good aspect is that every area you travel through has its own sound but the overal feeling you get from the music playing in the background is that a mystery is happing, which ofcourse is the case here. I must say that the soundtrack was able to provide just the right atmosphere for the tone the game was trying to set, and I really enjoyed that.
  • A puzzling story | Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town offers a fun and intruiging little story. You will play as Willy, who’s father has disappeared 10 years ago. After all this time he receives a mysterious letter which gets him to go on a journey to finally find out what happend to his dad. During his journey he goes to Bone Town where he meets some strange and mysterious villagers who aren’t always what they appear to be. One sidenote here is that the story isn’t that long and if you are good in puzzle games and can easily make certain connections you can easily finish this game in about 3,5 hours. This was the case for me personally, so I didn’t get the longest gaming experience but if you’re brain isn’t wired like mine, I’m sure you’ll get a little more time to enjoy this game.
  • Smooth gameplay | The game runs really smooth and even better than I expected on the Nintendo Switch. It also offers a nice feature which highlights all the spots that you can examine and interact with, making the game easy to play for the younger generation of gamers. Another thing that I really liked is that the Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town is completly playable with touchscreen, ofcourse you can also use the buttons on your Switch, but there aren’t many games that you can purely play with the touchscreen.

What we disliked

  • Price | There is one thing that I found worth mentioning in this category. I already mentioned that if you are somewhat good at puzzle games you can easily finish Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town in under 4 hours. But for a game that costs € 24,99 and has no replay value whatsoever, its a bit overpriced in my opinion. Of course this is a decision that every has to make for them selves but I found it worth mentioning. Maybe a good idea would be to pick this title up during a sale or something if you want to give it a try but also share my opinion that the price is a bit steep.

How long to beat the story | Around 3 to 6 hours, depending on your skills regarding puzzles
How long to achieve 1000G | Nintendo Switch doesn’t have achievements

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town offers a fun and exciting story to play through. The fact that the game is fully voice acted and the graphics are very detailed is making it even more fun to play. The only thing that I disliked is the high price tag.
