LifeisXbox’s Smart Moves 2 review | If you love to crunch your brain on a good puzzle game, then you have come to the proper review to read! Today we will be taking a deeper dive into the beautiful world of Smart Moves 2, which is made by the lovely folks over at grin robot. It sure has a unique vibe to it which I will tell you all about right now!
We played Smart Moves 2 for 4 hours on Steam. This game currently isn’t available on other platforms.
What we liked!
- Complex gameplay | This is something that got me by surprise. I expected some super easy gameplay that wouldn’t have much depth, but I was proven wrong quickly. You really have to think about every move you make to end up the right way to slay your enemy. You can only kill them if you are looking right at them, which can be hard at times, but very satisfying when you pull it off! I actually had to keep my mind at it with every single puzzle, for which the developers get credit!
- Music | When you will be playing Smart Moves 2, you will soon realize that you listen to a playlist. It’s not the most diverse playlist, but it is a true banger of a list! Without paying much attention to it, it hyped me up and got me CatJamming in secret. For those who don’t know what CatJamming is, I’m talking about bopping my head up and down to the music.
- Checkpoints | When I found myself facing more complex puzzles that existed out of multiple puzzles, I was prepared to redo the early puzzle to retry the hard one. Lucky enough, I was proven wrong again! Smart Moves 2 has an excellent checkpoint system where you can choose when you pick up a checkpoint to go back to it at will!
- Different enemies | But what I liked the most was the variation that Smart Moves 2 brought to the table! Each enemy reacts differently: some split up into more enemies, while others require multiple hits. This makes gameplay genuinely dynamic.
Somewhere between
- Score | What I found a bit annoying, or more there off, lacking, is that there isn’t a way of scoring your performance. There is no digital number, no timer, nothing. This gives players little to no incentive to replay levels. It isn’t that big of a deal, but still worth mentioning.
What we disliked
- No Menu | What I missed the most in the game, and therefore is my biggest complaint, is that there is no menu button/way to change your settings. I would have loved to adjust the master volume, rebind my keys, or put the game on “windowed.” But there isn’t any. You either have to turn off the music/sounds entirely or change them with your windows volume mixer.
