Review: Jets’n’Guns 2

Do you like Micheal Bay movies? Search no further, this is the game for you! Jets’n’Guns 2 is a shoot ‘em up game that has beautiful visuals and a lot of replayability. And literally everything can explode. But it does so so beautifully. Jets’n’Guns 2 is developed and published by Rake in Grass, and I think they did great! Let me tell you why.

What we liked!

  • Looks: The game looks absolutely beautiful. It looks both old and new at the same time. It has an oldish style that reminds me of the games I used to play when I was younger, but at the same time, the graphics are really good. As I mentioned in the intro, everything explodes! And it will not be a little boom. It’s more like: BOOOOOM!!! Haha. The explosions are big and colorful and if you play this in the dark, it will light up your entire room. The colors of the game really pop on your enemies in the air, as well as the little shooting people on the floor. That’s really good, otherwise, I wouldn’t notice those annoying little buggers. Then there are the boss fights and, oh boy, they can be quite challenging. From mechanical evil space spider to a skeleton tank! All looking scary, which they are!
  • Music: It’s so old and arcade-like! I loved it! Its techno music, but different in every level. And when the boss appears, it makes you shit your pants, as you should. The explosion sounds can be a little much, but if you just don’t put the volume too high, you will be all set! No need for your own music, I’m quite sure all will enjoy this soundtrack! Really fits the game and makes it fun even though you are playing the same level for the 3rd time.

Somewhere between

  • Upgrades: Yes, there are quite a few upgrades in-game. New guns, new bombs, new ultimates. It’s all very fun when you see the list. However, a lot of, for example, guns, feel the same. And there are 3 (if not more) add-ons for your ship that reduce heat… In my opinion that is not needed. I feel like they try to make it look like a lot but it all comes down to the same things. The ultimates, however, are really fun and most of them are unique.

What we disliked

  • Replayability: To get all the guns and all upgrades, and even if you are stuck at a boss and need more firepower, you will need to replay levels to buy new things to beat it. This is fun the first few times but after playing the same level 5 times, it gets stale. This could be different for you, but I got stuck at a boss. I played the levels I had done before until I could get a Tesla gun, then tried again. Still didn’t kill it. Played more of the old levels until I could afford 5 add-ons. And then I finally beat it. Barely. Maybe I’m just a potato but I think that’s too much backtracking.
