LifeisXbox’s Golazo! 2 review | I love football. So much so that I watch every series about it on streaming services, try to watch all European leagues, and watch my favorite club live, Beerschot VA in the Belgian 1B league. I’m always excited to play football games on Xbox, with Fifa being one of my most played games every year. I was very excited to get my hands on Golazo! 2, a game developed by Purple Tree SRL that promised to bring that typical 90s football gameplay. However, I am as disappointed in this game as when my favorite football club got demoted.

What we Liked!
- The love for great kit designs | Since a kid I have always paid extra attention to kits. Arsenal FC for example always had lovely kits. I wasn’t particularly fan for The Invincibles but they looked fantastic. I really adore how much attention went into this aspect when you go through the different nations and football clubs. You can have all the current licensed kits in the world in Fifa or eFootball but that retro feeling is priceless and only something that Golazo! 2 stands out with.
Mixed Feelings
- Decent but weird visuals | Golazo! 2 looks decent enough. Bright colors and a believable pitch and a nice neon vibe in the street ball mode make it pretty to look at. Things immediately become silly when the players start moving. Animations are so weird. Literally, all animations look unfinished and don’t overlap with other animations, you’ll notice this the most when you tackle and successfully take over the ball. Players instantly turn around to switch to the other side of the field, they don’t have a moveset for that. They simply blimp from right to left, a bit hilarious to see. Luckily that’s not something that hurts the already weak gameplay. Menu screens deserve a compliment, they really bring the football atmosphere to it.
What we Disliked
- Atrocious controls | A big issue with Golazo! 2 is the defending. You can push or tackle another player to steal the ball but both moves are so inaccurate that it immediately becomes frustrating. The CPU doesn’t have any issue at all performing inch-perfect tackles so the balance between a real player and a computer is terrible. Your players move around like heavy Ents from The Lord of the Rings, they don’t really turn around smoothly enough to be enjoyable.
- Simply boring, even when playing against a friend | Biggest reason why the gameplay lacks fun for me is the lack of teammates with brains. They don’t make tactical decisions and don’t do some free runs or keep defensive positions. Maybe this isn’t something I should expect from an arcade football game but Golazo! 2 requires literally 0 football insight. You pass and you shoot, that’s it. There is normal football play or street ball but there’s not much difference besides players on the field. The 3 vs. 3 play is a bit faster so that was my ‘favorite’ mode but to be honest I was glad when I played enough to write my review and be done with it.
How long to beat the story | there is no story available in Golazo! 2
How long to achieve 1000G | 8 hours.
