We love all sorts of games. Sometimes it is hard to cover a game in our traditional review style that’s why we have tidbit-style reviews. These shorter reviews cover games that deserve attention too but simply don’t fit our good, mixed, and bad template. In addition, they get a monthly summary article to give them even more reader attention!

An original title from Atari! It feels like ancient times when that happened. Atari has been publishing lots of remastered games with mixed results. Days of Doom falls in that category, it has great potential but comes a bit short in the end. The game is one full of cliches, a zombie apocalypse, roguelite gameplay where every run gives lasting currencies and simple enemies that recur too often.
In Days of Doom, you play with a group of survivors who each have their own abilities. For example, you have a tank with lots of health and a stun attack. A priest who can temporarily protect a character or himself from attacks. A long-range fighter who does powerful water attacks. Or my favorite, also for long range but with guns. Gradually you unlock other playable characters as well, but I’ll keep those a secret. The battles are done in turn-based against zombies and other human survivors. Where you have to make smart use of your characters, however, I missed variety here. After a few runs, a repetitive feeling began to set in pretty quickly. Every run is different though, with battles, random events, shop or sleep options. So you really have to plan to get enough fuel and keep your characters’ health high.
In conclusion, Days of Doom does have some annoying limitations. For example, I find it completely illogical that you have to reselect your character every time you make a guard move. There are far too few different enemies and the meta-process to improve your safe spot takes too long. I also find the game quite pricey, there are masses of better roguelite games for a cheaper price.
