We love all sorts of games. Sometimes it is hard to cover a game in our traditional review style that’s why we have tidbit-style reviews. These shorter reviews cover games that deserve attention too but simply don’t fit our good, mixed, and bad template. In addition, they get a monthly summary article to give them even more reader attention!

In Cybertrash STATYX, you are a 2D character that tries to fight the cyborgization. You fend off enemies and collect credits as well as experience points to upgrade your character into the most optimal of fighters.
I saw this 90-style game and was intrigued… Rest-assured, the graphics did not disappoint, I saw myself on an arcade cabinet as a little kid, putting credit into the arcade slot to be able to play and try to complete the levels. The music also has a synthwave element to it, which made me go straight back to my childhood. The controls are intuitive, but the gameplay left me a bit perplexed. Together with a terrible aiming, you need to time your jumps correctly and accordingly to the game’s layout and story.
The shooting for example is very precise. A few pixels off and you find yourself shooting into thin air. If you want to try this game out, let me give you a head’s up: squat that ass! Get down to the level of the robot you are trying to kill to be able to hit him. Moreover, you cannot save in between ‘levels’ -or should I call it stages? -, it’s like there is no checkpoint. And boy, how frustrating is that! But don’t worry… I rage-quitted a few times.
Once I got to the end of that stage, I found myself not regenerated. The health and shield bar does not restore itself automatically when passing through another stage. And have no doubt, when you die? You go back to the beginning of the level with the exact same health and shield points you entered with.
I am sure there is a market for this type of game, but I am not the audience for it. You would like the game if you like nostalgic games with a hint of cyberpunk, a bit like Mega Man X. The game tries to be metroidvenia but sadly fails to reach the mark.
Gaming is my form of escapism. When I don’t feel like it, I crawl into my sofa comfortably and put on a game. Some games I really enjoyed while others left me disappointed. That’s why I’ve decided to review games so that I could help you in your virtual life!
