Creepy Tale: Ingrid Penance review | You have likely watched a movie or played a game where a character is a terrible person all around before, and if you haven’t, you just found a game with a protagonist that is exactly that. She already starts showing that she doesn’t care about anyone other than herself when she mistreats her mother and only agrees to deliver bread to her grandmother because she expects her mother to make pancakes when she gets back. On her way there, she finds a puddle of water, throws the bread in it and jumps on said bread just so she doesn’t have to step on the puddle, and it turns out that puddle leads her to hell. Did the Creepy Brothers do a good job with the third chapter of the creepy tale series? You’re about to find out.

What we Liked!
- Hand-drawn horrors | Creepy Tale: Ingrid Penance looks pretty good, with a clear dark tone, horrifying characters and places, and a familiar Tim Burton-esque feeling. There are demons, disgusting-looking humans, or at least humanoids, and even human-sized owls that fit the dark setting of the game, and really give the player the creeps. The places you visit can be disgusting and/or terrifying, they are pretty well made, varied, and kept me interested through the whole experience. There are some gruesome elements throughout the game, including a variety of ways to die, which only adds to the creepiness.
- To be good or to be bad? | While playing Creepy Tale: Ingrid Penance you’ll find plenty of decisions to make, not as many as a Telltale Games game, but a decent amount of them. You always have two choices, and most of them are obvious if they’re good or bad, but there was at least one instance where I couldn’t differentiate between the two, and others where choosing the bad thing to do would make it so much easier to progress. You can check how many good and bad deeds you’ve done through your journey at any time by pressing the shoulder/trigger buttons. These decisions will lead you to one of three possible endings, a good one, one that is named a “classic” ending, and a bad one. I managed to get the good ending, but I did follow a walkthrough a few times to get me on the right path.
- Sounds of fear | I really liked the voice acting present in Creepy Tale: Ingrid Penance, the annoying-sounding Ingrid, which does fit her personality, the demons, and other human/humanoid characters all have good voice actors behind them, and it shows. The soundtrack itself also helps to bring the proper tone to the game, which is mostly dark, but also sometimes has that fable/fairytale-like music, it’s not one of the best I’ve heard, but it’s a good one.
Mixed Feelings
- Gameplay | There’s nothing unique about Creepy Tale: Ingrid Penance‘s gameplay, it plays exactly like you’d expect an adventure game to play, and I don’t consider that a bad thing at all. You can move around, interact with objects/characters and pick up and use items. You move Ingrid around directly instead of using a cursor of some kind, making it easier to play with a controller. There are plenty of puzzles to solve, and as I’ve mentioned before, I did use a guide a few times, so that helped a lot, some of the solutions for the puzzles are either difficult to figure out, sometimes depending on trial and error, and that may scare some players away from playing.
What we Disliked
- Nothing | Thankfully, this is not that kind of horror, keep scrolling.

Conclusion
78/100
While I haven’t played a whole lot of adventure games throughout my life for comparison, I did play a decent amount of them, and Creepy Tale: Ingrid Penance stands as one of the better ones, with some interesting and creepy characters and places, good voice-acting, and good visuals. If you’re into horror and adventure games, this will be worth your time.

Hi there, I’m Gabriel Colombo (Hence my reviewer name), I live in Brazil and I’ve been gaming since I was around 5 years old. Xbox became my main platform on the Xbox 360 era, before that I had played a bit on PC, Polystation (basically a skinned SNES), PlayStation 1 and 2. I really enjoy to experience immersive worlds, but I also enjoy playing silly games to have a laugh or just have fun.
