This was probably the most fun demo of the entire day. We gathered with a couple of other journalists and squared off against each other and the devs in what has to simultaneously be the most brutal and fluffy beatdown that happened in a long long time. We got to play two game modes, one being your regular ‘ol brawl in an assortment of whacky locations, the other being more or less Rocket League but with the party animals instead of cars.
The brawl was really just that but as silly animals in even goofier costumes. If you’ve played Gang Beasts, you already have a pretty good understanding of what Party Animals is like. I did find the controls a good bit more streamlined than Gang Beasts, for example, climbing is now a set button combination you just hold instead of this technique only the skilled or button mashers can successfully pull off, making comebacks more of a possibility. The football mode feels a lot like a mix of the football minigame in Fallguys and Rocket League rolled into one kicking and grabbing and headbutting gamemode. Because if the opponent’s team can’t get to the ball that makes winning all the easier.
