LifeisXbox’s Hate Free Heroes Agents of Aggro City [3D Enhanced] preview | Have you ever heard of Aggromites? You have not? Well, I hadn’t either until I played a little game called Hate Free Heroes. Basically, an Aggromite is a mischievous entity that influences a person’s aggression levels. They do this through some sort of altered reality. So whatever you say to a person, they get annoyed instantly and come at your troat. Sounds fun, huh? Well, in Hate Free Heroes, you play as an agent trying to investigate the rise of Aggromites in a city called Newsport. This modern-day role-playing game has been in Early Access for a few months now, so we thought it was about time we took a look at the progress that was made so far.

Meet The Professor
In Hate Free Heroes, you take on the role of someone called The Professor. Initially, the game offers you a chance to change this name but this is right when the first bug appeared: I could not change my name. Anyway, I got over that pretty quickly. The Professor is a former doctor and scientist who became a researcher for the Hate Free Heroes. His mission in the game is to discover the source of what is causing a rapid rise in the appearance of Aggromites in the city. By doing this, you’ll travel around the city, gather a team, and complete all kinds of missions.
The team and battles
As I mentioned, your first missions will be about gathering fellow agents to join your team. These team members will prove vital as the treats grow stronger quickly. Each agent has unique skills and abilities, allowing you to defeat various monsters. Thanks to upgradable gear with extra slots, you can make your team even stronger. Add to that their own history and personality, and you get a quirky team ready to battle by your side.
Every team member has HP points, but also MT and TP. These last two are used in battle to perform attacks. The attacks or skills are divided into technique, justice call, and medic and can be all sorts of actions: attacking or paralyzing enemies, getting defense stats up, healing someone, etc. By using the right skills, you can defeat the Aggromites you meet on your journey. If everyone in your team dies, you get a game over screen, so beware to keep at least one agent alive.
The look and sound of the game
I’m still having mixed feelings about the graphics of Hate Free Heroes. On the one hand, they feel very nostalgic, but at other times, they just felt too outdated and simple. The city you’re wandering around in could definitely use some more details, and just some more overall appeal. The characters, however, did look quite great. They each have their own style and I enjoyed their appearances. The enemies you encounter are good-looking as well, and they are quite varied.
When it comes to sound, Hate Free Heroes included a fun feature. An old MP3 player is used to pick songs. It only has a few songs on it, but they are diverse and I liked it. I did, however, sometimes turn off the volume and listened to my own music instead, not gonna lie. For the sound effects in-game, they are very robot-like and fit in with the atmosphere of the game perfectly. Nothing to complain about there.
I wish we had a bank like that
A feature I really loved was the bank. At this bank, you could donate 1/4th, 1/2th, or all of your money. When you got back 20 minutes later (there is a handy countdown clock at the top right of your screen), your money doubled. Just like that! A very welcome addition to the game that made things a lot easier.
Bugs and missing features
Hate Free Heroes is not bug-free yet I’m afraid. For one, the lady at the med store told me there were no items available all the time. I was able to access the med store only a few times, the other times I could not. And this just did not feel right, I’m pretty sure this was a bug. Another bug I encountered was after defeating Aggromites. There is this short beam of light because you freed a person of an Aggromite, but at times, this beam did not disappear. It just stayed on the screen, covering part of my character, until I engaged in another battle or left the building. Quite annoying, really.
Besides bugs, I also felt like some features and info was missing. For example, your party members can gain new skills. However, it is not completely clear when they get new skills added to their profile. There is no real explanation for this and I discovered my agents had new skills randomly when fighting in a battle.
In conclusion
Even though Hate Free Heroes Agents of Aggro City [3D Enhanced] is not completely my kind of game, I still ended up enjoying the time I spent with it. It doesn’t feel 100% finished yet, which makes complete sense, but the content you’re getting for € 12.49 is not too bad. If you’re into (J)RPG games, I recommend you go check out the Steam page and see for yourself if the game can please you!
