Eyes on the Week (7th – 11th October)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

My entire week has been spent taking in poorly cats and dogs into my rescue centre, looking after their needs and nursing them back to health, and then appropriately rehoming them into a suitable home. Yes, I’ve been addicted to playing Animal Shelter Simulator – something I wish I could do in real life. I’ve successfully rehomed 100+ animals so far and I’m in the race for Global #1 which could take some time.

Most interesting news of this week: The new Dead by Daylight Rift with a new Yui cosmetic and Overwatch 2 bringing out a new Illari cosmetic with Season 13 next week. I’ll see how much in-game currency I have and then make my budgeting decisions based on that. Also, being able to play your entire digital library using Cloud Gaming could soon be a reality!

Looking forward to playing: More Animal Shelter Simulator, some Overwatch 2 and maybe Age of Mythology: Retold.

A busy workweek (again) + my daughter was still in the hospital until Monday, so I had to catch up on work in the evenings instead of playing games.

I’m STILL playing Necro Story (glacial pace, because I start playing after 1 AM and then I tend to fall asleep) but what I’m playing is still fun. Make sure to check Benny’s review [HERE]

And I also started playing Aaero2 on Xbox. I had already playtested an early PC build and the original Aaero is still one of my favourite rhythm games ever so I’m super excited I get to go back and have an excuse to put on my SUBPAC and wob to the beat of some VERY good EDM music by MonsterCat. God, I love this game. Pssst: I’m in the credits too as I backed the game on IndieGoGo.

Most interesting news of this week: Aaero2 is launching on Xbox next week, October 15th. That’s the best gaming news I’ve heard this year ❤️

Looking forward to playing: Some more Aaero2!

I had some downtime this week because I’ve been flat-out busy with work & home improvements these last few weeks. But I’ve been playing Silent Hill 2 Remake on PC. Let me start off by saying that Bloober Team cooked. If you are on the fence in any way shape or form because of their track record, get it. It’s sheer perfection. Every aspect of the game is a joy to play. The graphics are probably the nicest I have ever seen on a game to date. In fact, I would go as far as to say that the team made a deal with the devil & gave up their firstborn child to make it look this good.

The sound design specifically is some of the best in the industry right now with every inch of the buildings, streets & hallways holding an eerie tone that fills you with dread. Silent Hill has been ingrained into my DNA since the very first game, & I’ve always picked up, played & liked (for the most part) all of the entries in some way. But this remake trumps each one, even the original SH2 on the PS2.

I won’t go into it, but I highly recommend anyone to pick this up. You won’t be disappointed, & I would put my trust in Bloober Team now with any of the other games for a remake.

Most interesting news of this week: The law changes that came into effect that now tells users buying digital goods you are only buying a license, not a product.

Looking forward to playing: More Silent Hill 2.

I’m still playing The Eternal Cylinder and We Love Katamari REROLL+Royal Reverie and enjoying them both, although I’m having more difficulty with them than I expected to have.

I also started playing Sifu thanks to Xbox Game Pass, and it’s been pretty challenging but also pretty good.

Most interesting news of this week: I can finally access X (Twitter) again after 40 days of it being offline in my country.

Looking forward to playing: More Sifu, We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie and The Eternal Cylinder.

Stu

This week was a heavy gaming week for a pleasant change. I have been playing a variety of games mainly  Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighbourville, Firewatch and Lucy Dreaming in addition to a smattering of others. In the next few weeks, I’ll be putting a lot of time into my work in the run-up to Christmas so making the most of my free time whilst I have the chance.

Most interesting news of this week: The turmoil surrounding Ubisoft. The mismanagement and potential takeovers etc. Hopefully it gets sorted out for the sake of their staff on the shop floor.

Looking forward to playing: The mana series has been put on Xbox Games Pass so I think that’s my next installation.

Missi

I had quite a busy week. I have been playing Hidden in My Paradise. A new game from Ogre Pixel. I love their previous games and I am glad they keep going strong. In Hidden in My Paradise, you have to find objectives (aka Where is Waldo?) as well as recreating scenes from photos.

I’ve also played Europa. A beautiful game with such an amazing narrator and an intriguing story. The gameplay felt a bit floaty and I’m not a fan of the type of achievements it has, as all of them are missable, but it is a short game and I did enjoy it a lot.

And the last game this week with the most hours is Amber Isle! I love this one! I love shopkeeping and cleaning up in games and this has both. Initially, it was a bit confusing, but things made more sense the further I got into the game. And everything looks so so cute!

Most interesting news of this week: Everything around Ubisoft. I’m not the biggest fan of AAA games anymore because of all the shenanigans big corporations do to get more money/game time from their players but I still have a soft spot for the Assassin’s Creed series.

Looking forward to playing: More Amber Isle and probably Scarlet’s Haunted Hotel.

Benny

This week I started playing Scorn, but I really struggled to get into it and moved onto more of my second play through of Necro Story as I attempt to go for 100% completion. It’s been interesting trying out new spells and choosing different upgrade paths. I’ve also been playing Aaero2 which I’m currently reviewing and addicted too at the moment, look out for my review coming ready for release on the 15th October.

I also started playing Kena: Bridge of Spirits, it looks amazing and has gameplay to match. The characters are like something from a Pixar movie and also very cute. I really like the challenging puzzles and great combat, especially the boss fights!

Most interesting news of this week: Future Halo Games Moving to Unreal Engine 5 as 343 Industries Rebrands, with ‘Multiple Projects’ currently in Development, 343 Industries will now be known as Halo Studios in a fresh beginning for Xbox’s flagship franchise.

Looking forward to playing: Much more Aaero2 and Kena: Bridge of Spirits.
