Eyes on the Week (31st March – 4th April)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Honestly, this week has been one of the roughest weeks I’ve experienced in some time so I’ve not managed to accomplish a great deal. I’ve played Overwatch 2, both casual and competitive, and I’m really leaning towards wanting to learn Lucio but I don’t think I would have the patience.

Secondly, I’ve played more Assassin’s Creed Shadows and finally hit the 50+ hours played so my review will be out next week. Once again, my apologies for the delayed review; life is in hard mode right now.

Finally, I delved back into SMITE (the original) because I don’t have the room on my hard drive for SMITE 2 and don’t have access to all the Gods. I only played Arena because I wasn’t confident enough to delve into Conquest or Joust, not knowing what to build or what is the ‘meta’. I do finally have 2 stars on Khepri thanks to the 3x worshipers and I’m close to 2 stars on Ra too.

Most interesting news of this week: The Switch 2 was announced but, in my opinion, Steam Deck is much better value unless you’re a die-hard Nintendo fan.

Looking forward to playing: I’m planning on going back to SCHiM, restarting Age of Mythology: Retold, more Overwatch 2, and something on my Steam Deck – either KOIRA, Grimoire Groves or Tile Tales: Pirates.

I’ve been playing South of Midnight, which I can finally share. You can read my full review [HERE] for a deep dive into this musical adventure! (Spoilers: it’s a solid recommendation!)

I’ve also beaten Little Nightmares and the 3 DLC episodes and plan to move on to Little Nightmares 2, hopefully in time before the 3rd game releases.

On PS5, I’m playing Spider-Man with my son (who is a huge fan of the character), I can’t believe I’ve waited so long to pick this up!

Most interesting news of this week: Spilled! launched last week and it’s doing great, it already has well over 1000 Steam reviews at the time of writing. So glad this cosy little Dutch game is doing well. Check Vicci’s review [HERE]

Looking forward to playing:  I really, really, really can’t wait for the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 code to land in my lap. That’s probably going to be my Game of the Year.

This week I’ve been invested in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Monster Hunter Wilds.

I’ll start with the most unusual for me which is Monster Hunter Wilds. I’ve never played one before. I’ve never been interested. I bought Monster Hunter Worlds in the Steam sale but never managed to find the motivation to play it. But something about this one looked interesting to me. Perhaps it was the use of RE Engine, or that the game looked a lot more appealing from the trailers, who knows. But honestly? I’m thinking of playing through them all now based on how much fun I’m having. Fighting huge monsters from different regions of the game, (LaLaBarina being the most interesting fight so far) with some of the most impressive special effects I’ve seen in a game to date. I’m honestly blown away by the presentation. It’ll keep me busy for a while.

Next but no means least, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been an absolute joy to play. Not only because I love Japan, but because it is one of the best Assassin’s Creed games I’ve played in the series. Being able to switch characters, a huge map to explore, the updated parkour & the base building is all very satisfying. The main highlight for me is the emphasis on Stealth. Sure it’s existed before in the series, but Shadows feels more refined. Almost like it depends on it. It also feels very refreshing in a way that the series had perhaps started to feel a little stale on.

Finally, I also picked up a physical Day-One edition of Slitterhead. A game that sadly only released digitally here in the UK. But thanks to BazarBazar.com who have tons of imported games at the ready, I was able to snag this beautiful creation complete with a physical soundtrack, a physical art book and stickers, a map and a physical copy of the game in a nice case. While I haven’t played it yet, it was developed by many members of the original Team Silent who made Silent Hill 1,2, & 3 for the PlayStation 1 & 2. While I really want to check it out, I think I’ll be hunting some more monsters first.

Most interesting news of this week: Xbox updated its Windows Game Bar which makes it more user-friendly and is very much like Steam, and displays more important information.

Looking forward to playing: Monster Hunter Wilds.

I’ve finished playing Agatha Christie – Murder on the Orient Express, and I must say that it was a pretty good game, longer than I expected it to be, but not in a bad way.

I’m still playing Persona 3 Reload: Episode Aigis – The Answer very slowly, but still playing it. I hope I finish it soon to begin playing another game, as I’ve already spent too much time with Persona 3 ReloadMonster Train is still a recurring game on my day-to-day life, I try playing through a run each day.

I also played a bit of Fall Guys with a friend, I gotta say that it still is a pretty fun game to play, despite how long it’s been since it was very popular.

Most interesting news of this week: Atomfall has recently been released, and I’m looking forward to trying it out, as it kind of seems similar to Fallout from what I’ve seen of it.

Looking forward to playing: More Monster Train, Persona 3 Reload: Episode Aigis – The Answer, and I’m also thinking about starting DE-EXIT – Eternal Matters.

I started this week with the very short game Dual Discovery: Unite Challenge, in which you have to search for objectives in a picture, but instead of one item, the items are split in two, and you have to find both of them. Fun and short game!

After that, Space Sprouts was next on the list, and I’m so happy it did. What an awesome game! It was already on my wishlist since I saw it during a Wholesome Showcase, but I didn’t anticipate loving it so much. The exploration, the puzzle, and how the more secrets you unlock, the more time you get during each run—I loved everything and even dreamed about it for two nights!

Next, it was time for Spilled! This amazing short game is about cleaning up the waters with your boat and improving your boat to make it easier. I’m so proud of Lente (as a fellow Dutchie) and Robby for how well the game is performing and how great it is!

I also played through Pilo and the Holobook. What a great casual puzzle adventure game where you scan items to make stickers and fill in your sticker book.

And last this week was Crashlands 2, an upcoming open-world survival game with a lot of humor. I’m having a good time with it even when I just started the game, I can’t wait to explore more!

Most interesting news of this week: Witchbook! News around Witchbook, and it is even launching this year! Also, the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 remakes look awesome!

Looking forward to playing: More Crashlands 2.

I’ve been busy playing Mullet Madjack, a game that I’m really enjoying, you can read my full review [HERE]

I also got back into Apex Legends after a short break. There’s a new season, but aside from a few weapon buffs and nerfs, not much has changed. I miss when a new season meant a new character.

I completed Kemono Heroes, a fun, action-packed run-and-gun platformer with 16-bit graphics and a four-player local co-op (though I played solo).

I also spent more time with Avowed and finished the prologue in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which I’m really enjoying. It looks amazing, and stealth has been greatly improved.

Most interesting news of this week: Rocksteady’s rumoured single-player Batman game is in development for PC, PS5, Xbox, and “the next generation of consoles”.

Looking forward to playing: Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and South of Midnight.
