Eyes on the Week (22nd-26th July)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Overwatch 2 was played once again, although not as much as previously due to my inability to play for any prolonged periods. I was due to have my migraine preventative injection on Monday but as the hospital has no stock, I’m stuck being in pain for the majority of the day for the foreseeable future.

I played Agriculture and Close to the Sun purely to get my remaining medals for the month on TrueAchievements. However, I will be returning to them both, especially Close to the Sun, because I think they were both enjoyable for the small amount of time I put into them.

Finally, me and Lewis played and completed the current achievement list for Cluedo but I wouldn’t be surprised if more achievements are added in the future. It’s such a relaxed and enjoyable game which I would be happy to return to.

Most interesting news of this week: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has joined Xbox Games Pass, the new 2v8 mode in Dead by Daylight is now available to play for a limited time, and the news that Humble Games has sacked all their employees is a huge unexpected blow.

Looking forward to playing: I’m not 100% sure. Overwatch 2? The First Descendant? Dead by Daylight? SCHiM? YumYum Cookstar? Your guess is as good as mine!

I’m back to playing more demos for Indie Cup Europe and discovered two new gems thanks to it: Trash In the Stars is a narrative platformer in which you play as a cat and Antro is a musical auto-runner where you need to time your evasion manoeuvres to the beat.

I also promised myself to continue playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth but got side-tracked yet again after a single day. This game has too much padding and beating it 100% is a chore. Really disappointed with some of their decision-making.

I started playing Dordogne via Xbox Game Pass on Xbox, and it’s very cosy! It’s not too long either, so I’m sure I’ll beat it in a few sittings.

Most interesting news of this week: Humble Games firing ALL their employees. This is such sad news for the people who worked there, but also for the games they are publishing like Billie Bust Up, which will now be handled by an unknown 3rd party.

Looking forward to playing: Magic The Gathering Bloomburrow Prerelease at the weekend!!!

This week I’ve spent the best part of playing through & reaching chapter 12 in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. It’s been on my backlog way too long. Not only have I been 100% in each area I’ve come across but I’ve had a bit of a love/hate relationship with its open-world to-do list objectives. While the main story is quite good with some complex alt-timeline integrations, the option side quests can be a bit of a slog. But it’s one of my most adored franchises, and because of that, I have been enduring it.

Other than this, I’ve been playing Pilgrim with my brother which is essentially a new game in the same vein as Lethal Company & Content Warning. Up to 6 people make their way across a barren Britain during the Dark Ages, scavenging treasure to sell at the merchant. Each location is filled with different creatures to avoid and/or kill as you try to make your way to the end and see if there is anything left of the world. It’s a pretty fun looting game with some creepy locations. You power your wooden cart in the way of crystals & are chased by a giant monster the whole time. You can evade it, but your cart can also get attacked. I highly recommend checking this out.

Most interesting news of this week: Humble Games dismissing all of their employees. I hope those affected can find alternative work soon.

Looking forward to playing: Finishing up Final Fantasy Rebirth.

I’ve finished playing the Dead Space remake and it was a substantial upgrade to the original, I really liked it. I’ve started playing the System Shock remake, I never played the original for comparison, but it’s been very interesting and engaging so far.

I’ve also been playing a little bit of Frog Detective: The Entire Mystery daily so I can complete game pass quests easily, and it’s a pretty simple and cute game.

Most interesting news of this week: Humble Games firing every one of their staff.

Looking forward to playing: More System Shock and Frog Detective, if I find the time I may play something else as well.

This was a busy week gaming-wise full of awesome games. I started this week by playing through Magical Delicacy which is a Metroidvania without fighting. you play as a witch and gather and buy ingredients to cook for the people around you. I needed some time to understand this game, but when it clicked it was so good!

I have also been playing Delicious Mansion Mystery, an upcoming GameHouse Game. I just play a few levels each day. The story in this one is a bit crazy but it has the solid gameplay I’m used to by GameHouse Games.

I’ve also played through Arranger: A Role-Playing Adventure. What a unique kind of puzzle game where when you move the world around you move with you. This game has quite challenging puzzles but I managed to get through it without skipping a puzzle or looking up a guide, which feels like an achievement on its own!

And I have played quite a bit of Dreamsweeper. This is a rogue-like puzzle game of sweeper combined with a rhythm fighting game. the movement and combat feel a bit off, but the game is fun.

Most interesting news of this week: Humble Games firing all its staff. I feel devastated by this news, as in my mind Humble Bundle did such a good job of publishing awesome indie games. So what went wrong, why was this move needed? And their own statement about “restructuring” felt like such corporate speak. I hope the staff finds soon another job and the devs of the games will have more clarity soon. I would like to especially highlight Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus, as they just released their game a few days before all this happened and people might not have seen it or paid attention to it because it is from a business that got bad press.

Looking forward to playing: I’ll be playing more Delicious Mansion Mystery.

I’ve been playing Dungeons of Hinterberg, few of the puzzles are quite taxing and really do get you thinking. I’ve also been playing Apex Legends with friends and some Hidden Cats in Rome which was released this week and now has a bonus level that unlocks after you complete the standard, advanced and bonus levels, very relaxing game at a budget price.

Another game I’ve been playing is Kunitsu-Gami: Path of The Goddess also recently released on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, plays as a side-scrolling beat-em-up with RPG elements, is good fun with lots to learn and is also very challenging at times.

Most interesting news of this week: After weeks of rumours Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Is Out Now On Game Pass.

Looking forward to playing: Much more Dungeons of Hinterberg, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of The Goddess and the Modern Warfare 3 Campaign and giving Zombies mode a go with friends too.
