Eyes on the Week (1st-5th May)

Time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

I’ve found it very difficult to play much of anything this week due to feeling massively under the weather. I’m feeling a little better but not back to normal yet. I did manage to play a couple of runs of Vampire Survivors because I found it very easy to play, not to mention its super addictive nature. I’m starting to find some build combinations that are exceptionally powerful which makes things much easier.

I’ve also been playing my review game, Mangavania, which is a retro platformer. My review will be published tomorrow afternoon. My apologies for not publishing Weeping Willow quite yet – it’s a work in progress due to me being unwell.

Finally, I re-installed CrossfireX to clean up the remaining achievements I’m yet to get before the servers shut down on the 18th of May and started my adventure into Ravenlok, recently added to Xbox Games Pass. Seeing it described as a ‘kid version of Dark Souls’ immediately had me intrigued and I’ve enjoyed my minimal time with it so far.

Most exciting news of this week: Not much has caught my attention this week.

Looking forward to playing: Ravenlok, Swordbreaker: Origins, DE-EXIT – Eternal Matters, and CrossfireX.

I beat Bramble: The Mountain King in a few sittings because I was completely swept away by the gruesome Nordic horrors that dwell within, you can check my review [HERE] if you want to find out more.

I also tried playing some Guilty Gear: Strive yesterday, mostly because there were 500 MS rewards to be earned, but I didn’t really like this fighter: special attacks didn’t look special enough, The campaign is just watching an anime, with no gameplay and there was hardly anyone online to play against so just beat the arcade mode and called it quits.

Most exciting news of this week: The Realm Architect Kickstarter got funded! I helped them as PR and made some significant changes like their key art, sending out press releases and boosting their social media to the next level. super excited that we got it funded within 48h !! you can find out more about the TTRPG project HERE.

Looking forward to playing:  I really want to find some time to get back to Resident Evil 4 Remake, that game has been nothing but awesome yet I never seem to find the time to play it.

This week, I have been playing Redfall. I won’t say too much on this since I know a review is in the works, but I am sure most of you know by now. It has its issues. First up, we have some performance issues across PC & Xbox, with frame timing issues, fps drops, graphical imperfections, and scaling issues. But underneath all of those, I do find myself having fun with the game. It definitely has a lot of potential to be a decent shooter when it irons out all of the bugs. My biggest concern right now is that it has a seriously dwindling user base, meaning when I do get around to playing co-op, there won’t be much opportunity.

Besides Redfall, I have also been playing Evil Dead The Game. I know this is about a year old at this point, but I recently got it for free with Epic Games and decided to give it a try after seeing the new Evil Dead Rise film. The game is pretty fun, especially with friends, has some gory takedowns and some great voice acting by the cast of Ash vs Evil Dead & the film franchises.

Most exciting news of this week: Zelda Tears of the Kingdom leaking online. Very sad news for the team.

Looking forward to playing: More Redfall.

Not a whole lot of gaming from me this week; I only played a bit of Gunfire Reborn. I do need to play more Unheard Voices of Crime Edition for an upcoming review but I haven’t had much time that I could focus on sound and it’s a fundamental part of it.

Most exciting news of this week: Zelda Tears of the Kingdom ROM leaking.

Looking forward to playing: More Unheard Voices of Crime Edition, hopefully soon.

I spent a lot of time playing Honkai Star Rail this week. Mihoyo’s latest gacha has caught my free time hook line and sinker. I made it off Herta’s space station and onto Jarilo-VI. I managed to get lucky twice by pulling Clara from the limited banner, and Bronya from the permanent one. I really lucked out with Bronya, since I got her on my ninth pull. I like to think this saved up luck from when I played Genshin Impact.

I also played more Outward over the week, building my character to be a debuff spamming mace wielder. I travelled to all corners of the land, having the most issues in the Hallowed Marsh where I foiled a plot to destabilise the region via bandit raid by murdering them all and presenting evidence of the plot to the leader of the Blue Chamber Alliance. That guy owes me one now.

I also played and review Shapebreaker – Tower Defense Deckbuilder, the review for which you can find [HERE].

Most exciting news of this week: For me, it was The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s files leaking roughly 2 weeks early. I’ve made an effort to not look at any of it though. I’ve waited this long, another week or two won’t make the difference.

Looking forward to playing: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. So I’m hoping to wrap up a lot of other games before then.

I started this week off very well, I was finally able to get the most challenging achievement in Kingdom Two Crowns. I have been struggling with that one for a while and had no idea how to do it, but found a good guide, and with those tips it was easy. I look forward to returning back to the series in the future when I buy the DLC I’m missing. And looking forward to the new Kingdom entree that releases later this year.

I also played I commissioned some dogs 2, which is such a relaxing puzzle game in which you’re searching for objectives in artwork made by different artists.  For me this is just a relaxing game, listening to a podcast in the background while searching for dogs and bones in this specific entry.

I have also made a new start with Flynn: Son of Crimson. Played that a while back but never finished it. So I decided to pick it back up as I did enjoy it a lot.

Most exciting news of this week: The release date of Planet of Lana in just a few weeks. This game looks just so adorable and I can’t wait to try it out.

Looking forward to playing: More Flynn: Son of Crimson as I hope to beat it and unlock all the achievements this time.
