Eyes on the Week (1st-5th July)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Dead by Daylight was the main focus and priority this week as I hadn’t played any of the anniversary event until Monday, meaning me and Lewis only had two days to complete the event tome and get any/all the cosmetics we wanted. We persevered and got everything done which was a massive relief for us both! We just weren’t in the mood to play as we both have other gaming priorities at the moment.

I continued my playthrough of Digimon Survive and managed to pass part one. I haven’t progressed much further into part two but I think this game will be a slow burner and will be something I come back to every so many days or so. I had forgotten just how sweet Digimon can be though – seeing one of my favourites from back when I played Digimon Rumble Arena on PlayStation 1.

To relax, I played through Sherlock Purr 2 which uses the simple concept of finding hidden objects amongst the levels. This wasn’t too difficult, even if the levels did progressively increase in difficulty.

Most interesting news of this week: I was disappointed to hear The First Descendant didn’t have the best launch with server issues but I’m still excited to try it out when I get the time. Also, WatchDogs is getting a movie – Could we see another game added to the series? I hope so!

Looking forward to playing: Wildmender, SCHiM and possibly The First Descendant if I can squeeze it in!

I’m playing SCHiM for our client and will also have a guide up when the game launches. It’s a cute shadow-hopping platformer that a lot of people will surely enjoy.

I also beat Spilled! again, which received a visual update and some new content and will have a new public demo as of 5 July.

The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC launched and that’s pretty much been what everyone has been playing recently, including me. I haven’t beaten a single DLC boss yet, but I did finally beat Malenia (with 80% of the work done by a helpful online spirit).

And I’m carrying on playing Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door in between. It looks amazing and I’m so happy I can finally play it, as I never owned a GameCube.

Most interesting news of this week: Signed some pretty big deals for Pirate PR for the rest of the year and can’t say much about it 🤐

Looking forward to playing: I’m hoping to find the courage to power through Elden Ring. But I just don’t have that kind of time.

It’s been a very busy week for me in terms of game releases. Diving right in with the early access launch of Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail last Friday and its full launch on Tuesday has been what consumed the bulk of my time last week. I’ve taken my time levelling up the new Viper and Pictomancer jobs to level 90 so I can use them to go through the main story (MSQ) with them. I’ll hold off on talking about the story since I’m still going through it myself at a leisurely pace. Tural and the zones I’ve seen of it so far are all beautiful and I’m loving the middle American vibe.

Since my last time contributing Firefly’s banner has been live in Honkai Star Rail. I treated myself to a late birthday present and topped off my account with enough stellar jades to go for 2 additional copies and her signature lightcone. This has made her both stupendously powerful and easy to use since I now use no skill points in my enhanced state and take a second turn if I break an enemy’s weakness. On top of that, with the right gear and team composition she just shreds through any wave thrown at her.

But Honkai Star Rail isn’t the only Mihoyo game I played, as on Thursday Zenless Zone Zero was released. Another gacha game, but this one focuses on live combat in teams of three. So far I’m loving every second of it. The story is still ramping up and in the process of really hooking me. Both the combat and animations are extremely smooth and well done. They’re taking a whacky approach with stretchy limbs and everything to really let the zaniness shine and while I won’t be making this a daily driver as I have with Honkai Star Rail, I can see myself coming back to it weekly or whenever events are live.

Most interesting news of this week: That would be the launch of FFXIV Dawntrail. And at that, to no noticeable login issues. They really learned from what happened with Endwalker 2 years ago.

Looking forward to playing: FFXIV Dawntrail and Zenless Zone Zero of course.

It’s been a quieter gaming week for me, but I have been playing some more Resident Evil 4, which is just incredible. I’ve also been playing Space Mercenary Defence Force, a fun and challenging auto-shooter. I’ve also started Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition which is very nostalgic and fun to play, although I’ve not got very far yet.

Most interesting news of this week: Capcom Confirms New Resident Evil Game Is In Development With Resident Evil 7 Director.

Looking forward to playing: More Beyond Good and Evil, Resident Evil 4 and Dig or Die: Console Edition (My review coming soon)
