Eyes on the Week (15th-19th July)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

This week, I finally got back into Grand Theft Auto V and completed the main story. The ending wasn’t as explosive as I had expected but it was still a fun ride nonetheless. Looks like I have many achievements to clear up though, both online and offline, so I’m far from done with the game yet.

Overwatch 2 is a game I’ve wanted to dedicate more time to, despite the rough games, so that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. Me and Lewis were taking turns while we were together and he has now taken a shine to the support role. When I say support role, I mean Baptiste. Looks like we’ll be queueing double support for the foreseeable future. It’s a good thing I’m still enjoying Illari, Moira and Kiriko but I’d love to improve on my Ana and Moira.

Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The First Cases is a game I’ve owned for some time and as I fancied a detective/crime-solving game, it only felt right to load it up and see what secrets I could uncover. I have managed to complete everything this morning, including all miscellaneous achievements, and enjoyed my time with the game. Now, maybe a return to L.A. Noire is calling me? Who knows.

I went back and finished my first playthrough of The Quarry. Only one person died and I was gutted about it. Thankfully, they met their terrible fate late into the game so I was able to replay the last couple of chapters and get my achievement for everyone surviving this morning. I’m dreading the clear up but I’ll commit to that at a later date.

Most interesting news of this week: Honestly, something I won’t mention here but it’s knocked the wind out of me. Besides this, Dave the Diver possibly coming to Xbox Games Pass, a release date for The Casting of Frank Stone, Lara Croft has been added to Dead by Daylight, and the appearance of the new support, Juno, into Overwatch 2.

Looking forward to playing: SCHiM, The Quarry, YumYum Cookstar and Overwatch 2.

I started playing Disney Speedstorm because I wanted to have something the kids could play with each other. Turns out the game doesn’t have split-screen multiplayer, but sucker that I am, I kept on playing because it has constant unlocks and gives me silly dopamine rushes. Also, that Let It Go version slams!!

I needed to play some demos for IndieCup Europe as well because I’m on the jury. I played 5 out of the 10 I was assigned and was already happily surprised with some of them. I’ll see if I can list them all next week.

Also playing Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for review, but I keep falling asleep because I’m too tired to game at night. I’m having the same issue with Elden Ring’s DLC, can’t make any progress because I’m just too beat from working 12-hour days.

Most interesting news of this week: We have to announce that SCHiM will have physical versions for Switch & PS5. Just too bad that Xbox isn’t as open to limited physical runs.

Looking forward to playing: Tchia is on Xbox Game Pass and very tempting… and Still Wakes the Deep as well!

I haven’t been able to play a whole lot, but I did play a few hours of the Dead Space remake and I have to say that it’s quite a good game, it’s a really good upgrade to the original. I also played Little Kitty, Big City and finished it. It was a nice game.

I tried out the Valorant console closed beta, and I’m unsure if I’ll play much of it, but I still found it interesting. Finally, I’ve also played a bit of Battlefield 1, it’s one of my favorite Battlefields ever despite me not putting in nearly as many hours as I did with Overwatch and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019).

Most interesting news of this week: This is completely unrelated to gaming, but I got myself a new job!

Looking forward to playing: More Dead Space remake, Battlefield 1 and possibly other games.

I have played and finished Dungeons of Hinterberg this week. What an amazing game. I already fell in love while doing the first dungeons in this game and that feeling didn’t change to the end of the game. For me, this one is a high contender to be the best game of 2024, but we still have a busy season or 2 ahead of us.

I have also been playing the newest upcoming GameHouse Game on Steam called Delicious – Mansion Mystery and it is a great time management game. I enjoy the GameHouse titles a lot.

Last but not least, I’m playing through Magical Delicacy. What an amazing idea to make a Metroidvania without having to fight enemies.

Most interesting news of this week:  It is an awesome week to have Xbox Game Pass. Their messaging is sometimes confusing but adding Dungeons of Hinterbeg, Magical Delicacy and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess in the same week… you don’t have to be bored this summer if you are subscribed to this service.

Looking forward to playing:  I’ll be playing more Magical Delicacy over the next few days.

This week I’ve been playing Dig or Die: Console edition, you can read my review [HERE]. I’ve also playing Apex Legends after having a break for a few weeks, the new quads mode is great, giving an extra teammate in your squad. I have also played a little of Dungeons of Hinterberg and Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn both new on Gamepass this week.

Another game I’ve been really enjoying this week is Neon White, also new on Xbox Game Pass. It’s a fast-paced first-person action platformer with friends leaderboards so you can try and beat each other’s times which I really like.

Most interesting news of this week: Splitgate developer 1047 Games has announced that it will launch the sequel to its surprise hit indie shooter in 2025.

Looking forward to playing: More Dungeons of Hinterberg and Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn along with some Resident Evil 4 and Apex Legends.
