Eyes on the Week (13th-17th January)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

This week, I’ve managed to play multiple games. One which I’ve been wanting to play for a while is This Bed We Made. It allows you to take on the role of Sophie, a maid, as she snoops around guests’ bedrooms and uncovers a multitude of secrets. I will be writing a review for this so I don’t want to give too much away but needless to say, it did satisfy my curious nature.

Me and Lewis also jumped on Dead Island Riptide: Definitive Edition together as he needed the two remaining co-op achievements for his completion which was more fun than I anticipated. I don’t know what it is about slaughtering zombies that is so satisfying but I will be attempting the completion for myself at a later date.

I’ve mainly been on Genshin Impact to do my daily and weekly quests but I have also managed to get both The Traveler and Xiangling to Level 90 – The only person who isn’t currently maxed out on my team is Fischl. Next, I’ll be working on improving their weapons, artifacts and talents.

On the negative side, I tried to play Bright Side: Riddles & Puzzles but the game wouldn’t load past the starting screen. Just a little heads-up for anyone who is thinking of purchasing this. Instead, I started Sweet Bakery Tycoon. I’m only 12 levels in but it already feels more difficult than previous games I have played with the same gameplay mechanics.

Most interesting news of this week: The trailer, reveal and announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Looking forward to playing: Genshin Impact and whatever else takes my fancy.

Work has been busy-busy-busy: I sent out 8 Press Releases in a week, all getting decent of great coverage and with Full Steam: Fluffy X Machina and Katanaut (gotta love that punny name) both making it onto the main IGN YouTube channel. Katanaut also has a Steam demo that just dropped, so I’ll be playing that this weekend.

On Xbox, I’ve mostly been playing Slay The Spire. Yes, I know, I’m late to the party. And despite everyone raving about it and now having played it for ~6 hours or so… I still vastly prefer Roguebook to it. Prettier, more variety in gameplay and my decks just end up being a lot more different versus the same tired old build in STS. I have the sequel improves there…

On PC, I’ve started playing Asfalia: Fear along with my çyo daughter, which is a lot of fun that we can do so together. I really love the voice acting and how accessible it is for younger gamers. HERE is our video of us playing the first hour and you can also read Derek’s review [HERE]

Most interesting news of this week: The Switch 2 arrived, I guess everyone saw that. We did have fun announcing our own take on it with Ruffy and the Riverside though, and that tweet went viral:

Looking forward to playing: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD!

Hello, I’ve been very busy lately, but I did manage to start playing some games I’ve been collecting over the last couple of weeks. I’ve been rather taken with Limited Run Games, a company that literally produces a limited run of physical copies for games that would normally only be released digitally.

With that in mind, I started with Clock Tower Rewind, which is a rather decent port of the SNES classic from 1995. It includes the history of the series in mini-documentaries built into the game, some quality-of-life improvements, new aspect ratios for modern systems, & the ability to “rewind” time if you mess up so you can try again. If you’ve never played the Clocktower series, this would be a great game to try out given how it’s one of the first mainstream horror games for it’s time.

I also managed to pick up Lollipop Chainsaw RePop which is a remaster of the Xbox 360 & PS3 version. If you are like me & you’ve played the original versions on 7th gen consoles, then you’ll love RePop. It didn’t have the greatest start when it was released mid last year, but a series of updates & stability patches now make it on par or slightly better depending on who you ask with the Xbox 360 version. It’s been great to go back & experience these games again after so many years of more up-to-date games.

Speaking of nostalgia, I also started & finished Dino Crisis via Playstation + this week. It’s been around 15 years since I played it last, & I have to say, it hasn’t stuck with me like Resident Evil did. For the life of me, I couldn’t remember the puzzles, or the map, & secondary to this, I don’t remember the puzzles being so damn hard. Anyway, it was a great trip down memory lane.

Finally, I picked up Quake in physical format for the Nintendo Switch along with Star Wars: Republic Commando. Both Limited Run Games prints. I haven’t had the chance to sit down with these yet, but the plan is to do this over the weekend.

Most interesting news of this week: Nintendo Switch 2 reveal trailer. We all knew it was a thing, we’ve seen the motherboard, accessories, mock-up units, so why the wait Nintendo? All things aside, I’m excited for the full breakdown on April 2nd which will hopefully showcase games, price, & a release date.

Looking forward to playing: More Lollipop Chainsaw & Quake!

I’m still playing Call of Duty Black Ops 6It Takes TwoPersona 3 Reload and Balatro. I did play a little bit of InscryptionSteamworld Dig and Vampire Survivors for a Game Pass quest, all of which I have already played and enjoyed in the past.

Most interesting news of this week: The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal trailer releasing.

Looking forward to playing: More of the same: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, It Takes Two, Persona 3 Reload and Balatro.

Missi

I’ve played a bunch more of Uncle Chop’s Rocket Shop but struggled a bit with some of the endings. However, it is amazing that the community decoded all the secret codes that could be found in the game.

I have also played a bunch more Balatro. not in such an addictive way as during Christmas, but I have finished all the challenge runs, so I’m back to completing many more gold stakes. (And that stupid 100 million score in one hand that I’m having so much trouble with)

I have also started with the Hydroponics Farm & Store Simulator; however, I’m still at the very beginning, so I’m not sure what to think about it yet.

Most interesting news of this week: The Switch 2 reveal, but did we learn more than we already knew? Another event this week was the farewell event of the Dutch Game Garden, which helped many Dutch (indie) developers over its 17 years of existence.

Looking forward to playing: More Hydroponics and Stars in The Trash.

This past week I’ve been playing Tap Wizard 2, a surprisingly addictive auto-shooter. You can read my review [HERE]

I’ve also been playing Boti: Byteland Overclocked, a really fun platformer that I’m enjoying so far. Look out for my review coming soon. Another game I’ve been playing is Apex Legends, which I’m back to after a short break. I’m really enjoying it again now that it’s gone back to basics.

Most interesting news of this week: Nintendo has announced the Switch 2 and also revealed a worldwide hands-on tour where the public can try the new console ahead of its launch.

Looking forward to playing: Much more Boti: Byteland Overclocked, some more Apex Legends plus some Trepang2 which i recently picked up.
